Church Life

Please note that a number of these groups have been suspended during the pandemic. For information about current gatherings, please collect a copy of the St Mary’s magazine in the porch of the church.

Monthly Prayer Gatherings

Members of the congregation get together in the Rectory on a Friday evening once a month to pray for the church and the community. We also have a monthly meeting with some of the parents from St Mary’s School on a Friday afternoon to pray for the life of the school.

Sunday Lunch Group

A chance to get to know others in the congregation by joining them for lunch after the main Sunday service. The venue and the make-up of the group varies from week to week but the meal is always affordable and lifts can be arranged.

Men’s Group

The group provides an opportunity to meet in relaxed surroundings and gives us a break from the routine commitments of our lives.

Our activities are centred around a monthly Saturday breakfast together – usually at Choices Delicatessen in the High Street. We aim to open and close proceedings with a short prayer between which we have wide-ranging discussion on matters of faith and practice – sometimes centred around a theme suggested by one of our members.

Outwith these regular sessions we aim to offer such support as we can to the pastoral outreach of St Mary’s and perhaps offer practical help in maintenance of our buildings and surrounding grounds. The group from time to time organises a retreat or quiet day for themselves and others interested.

Women’s Group

Women’s Group is a social group for women of all ages from St Mary’s. It was started nearly 40 years ago and continues to thrive. New members are always very welcome. We meet monthly from September to May for a variety of social activities which always include the opportunity to have a cosy natter over a cuppa and something tasty to eat! If you would like more details, feel free to contact any of us on the committee.
We look forward to seeing you!

Hosanna Group

We enjoy lots of different types of music at St Mary’s. Much of our music is supported by organ. Other times, a music group leads us in more contemporary worship songs. New musicians and singers are always welcome. Email the Rector if you would like to ask about taking part.

Craft Group

The Craft Group gathers in the meeting rooms of the Church Hall every Monday afternoon at 2pm. This is a great place to make friends, learn new skills, and share ideas. Bring your own projects, join in the ongoing work that the group does for charity or just come for a cuppa and a chat. Every year we collect toiletries for the mothers at Women’s Aid, we have knitted warm hats for seafarers, poppies for Remembrance, mitts for premature babies and we often help with Young Church’s projects. We support each other through prayer and friendship.
